Any of several virus diseases of the tropics,
in which high temperatures over several days
end in haemorrhage from nose, throat, and
intestines, with up to 90% mortality. The
causative organism of W African Lassa fever
lives in rats (which betray no symptoms), but
in Marburg disease and Ebola fever, the host
animal is unknown.
